Research at the Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology, University of Lincoln, is looking into the effects of coastal flooding on agricultural land.

 

The image (below, right) shows NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) from satellite imagery.

Green areas indicate fields with a high vegetative (crop) growth. Note the patchy colour distribution in some fields nearest the coastline. These fields were inundated with seawater, which has negative implications for crop growth.
